Environmental problems caused by the increasing amount of plastic waste require innovative and sustainable management solutions, including environmentally based Qur’an reading desk design approaches. This community service activity was conducted to produce a recommendation for an Eco-Design-based Qur’an reading desk utilizing High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic bottle waste at Masjid Baiturrahman. The implementation method included identifying the existing condition of mosque facilities, analyzing user needs based on congregation activities, and developing the design using an Eco-Design approach that considered functionality, ergonomics, modularity, and material sustainability aspects. The plastic waste material was planned and processed using the hot pressing method to produce solid sheets applied to the construction of a modular knock-down Qur’an reading desk with an interlock system. The results showed that the Eco-Design approach was able to produce a Qur’an reading desk design that is easy to assemble, flexible to use, and aesthetically valuable through the visual character of recycled materials. In addition to supporting religious learning facilities, the design also has the potential to become a medium for environmental education and community empowerment in managing plastic waste independently and sustainably.
