Abstract

The number of elderly people in Indonesia continues to increase each year, which certainly brings new challenges in creating safe, comfortablehousing that supports their independence. This situation demands special attention regarding the use of interior design elements, especially those related to lighting, space planning, and other elements that are suitable for the physical and mental capabilities of the elderly. The use of inappropriate design can lead to many discomforts for the elderly, such as decreased visual sharpness, increased risk of accidents, and impactson mental health, such as stress and anxiety. This research aims to develop a user-centered interior design concept, focusing on the well- being and safety of the elderly. A descriptive qualitative method is used to achieve and enhance a deeper understanding of the preferences of theelderly regarding interior design elements such as color, material, furniture layout, and lighting in living spaces. Through this study, practical and sustainable design recommendations are obtained to create elderly- friendly living spaces in the future.
